How can I get involved?
Join the sustainable seafood movement and be part of the solution! Your support and actions are crucial to ensure the sustainability of our oceans and its marine life. Act today to ensure that we can continue to enjoy our seafood.
Individual Consumer
Your seafood choice and your consumption behaviour can determine what kind of ocean we leave for our children, and their children. Start acting now:
Use your SOS guide
Keep the pocket-size guide in your wallet or shopping bag. Stick it to your fridge, so that you’ll be reminded to buy sustainable seafood when you do your shopping list. Order or buy only seafood items in the “Recommended” category and stay away from the “Avoid” species. Always ask where the seafood originates from and how are they caught or produced. |
|
Ask for sustainable seafood
Use your consumer purchasing powers and demand for more sustainable choices whenever you order or purchase seafood. Ask more questions – it is your right to know the source and production method of the seafood so that you can make informed and better choices. You can also ask seafood providers to provide more “Recommended” seafood items and reduce “Avoid” items and share the SOS guide with them. |
|
Stop eating shark fin
Stop eating shark fin and other shark products. The demand for shark fins has threatened them to extinction. Most sharks are listed as endangered in the IUCN and CITES list. If possible, inform your host or banquet organizer that you wish to avoid shark fin before the event. |
|
Champion the SOS cause
We can’t do this alone. We need your help to spread the message that the global marine ecosystem and our seafood is under threat and your simple but urgent action is needed. Promote sustainable seafood to your friends and family and ask them to support the SOS campaign. |
|
Share with us
If you have recipes using seafood from the “Recommended” list or if you’ve created an ocean-friendly menu, please send to us, so that we can share them with others. |
|
Corporate Consumer
Corporate policies and decisions can make significant impact on our nature, which is why your support is urgently needed to help sustain healthy ocean ecosystems that will exist long into the future. Be ahead in the corporate ladder by being the first few corporations to support sustainable seafood and help us spread the SOS message.
Support sustainable seafood
Use the SOS seafood guide as a reference when deciding on the menu for your corporate functions. Distribute and encourage your guests to use the guide. |
|
Have a dining policy
Establish a Sustainable Seafood Dining Policy by selecting seafood items in the Recommended or Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) category and abstain from the “Avoid” list. For example, issue a memo that states only seafood in the Recommended/ MSC list should be used in all your corporation functions. |
|
Educate staff
Raise awareness among your staff about the importance of conserving our oceans. Distribute the seafood guide and encourage staff to choose sustainable seafood. Or you ask us for more sustainable seafood materials to be shared with staff. |
|
Stop eating shark fin
Stop serving/eating shark fin and other shark products at your corporate events. The demand for shark fins has threatened them to extinction. Most sharks are listed as endangered in the IUCN and CITES list. Place a table tent card to inform your guests the reason behind this decision. If your company is committed to this cause, please contact us for more information/ assistance. |
|
Promote SOS campaign
Become a SOS Supporter to help us spread the message. Do let us know if your company is interested in working with us to promote sustainable seafood. |
|
Restaurant, Hotel & Trader
As a restaurant or hotel owner, you are a key player in promoting sustainable seafood products to diners by helping them choose seafood that not only tastes delicious but also good for the ocean. As a seafood supplier or retailer, you are well-positioned to make a positive change to help ensure that we use our marine resources in a sustainable manner.
