STAFF TRAINING
Train your store(s) employees who are specifically handling and managing seafood on seafood sustainability.
RESPONSIBLE PROCUREMENT
Establish responsible seafood procurement criteria as part of a holistic seafood policy for the Procurement Team, such as no sourcing or selling of any endangered species, ensure all seafood offered in your store(s) is legal and traceable to its origin, and set a preference to source and sell sustainable seafood.
COMMUNICATION
Communicate with your customers on the environmental and social benefits of sustainable seafood and your business commitment to improve seafood sustainability
PRODUCT LABELLING
Based on proper data records from the tracking system, provide correct labelling by declaring the following information on labels/signs for the fresh seafood products sold in your store/s:
Species (common names)
Species (scientific names)
Location/country of origin
Fishing production method (wild-caught and type of fishing gear used OR farmed/aquaculture)
SEAFOOD TRACKING SYSTEM
Develop and implement a tracking system for fresh seafood products, which consist of:
accurate and updated data records of seafood information (common and scientific name, origin, production method)
due diligence by verifying the authenticity of information of seafood products (e.g. audit or suppliers’ conduct to trace origin or fishing methods)
a segregation method to differentiate between sustainable and non-sustainable seafood products
