TOK BALI FIP
LONGTAIL TUNA FIP IN TOK BALI, KELANTAN

Tok Bali is a fishing port in Kelantan, Malaysia, located about 48 kilometres from Kota Bharu. Tok Bali has the potential to be the most important fisheries hub in Malaysia and this can be seen by the increase of fish landing in Kelantan for the previous 4 years from 62,238 metric tonnes in 2014 to 196,132 metric tonnes in 2017.
One of the major species of neritic tuna in Tok Bali is longtail tuna, thunnus tonggol or locally known as ‘ikan tongkol’ or ‘aya hitam’. The total number of vessels in Tok Bali is more than 300 but currently only about 76 purse seine vessels are operating. Half of the vessels are specifically targeting longtail tuna. The vessel operation is between 7-15 days per trip and up to the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) border of China, Thailand and Vietnam.
This Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) is only at the initiation phase where the scoping process is still in progress.
